"Conduits for contemplation, traversing our winding paths of existence. A forward momentum guiding us to our ultimate destination, monolithic and roaring, sometimes we are alone, sometimes we are accompanied. A true heartbeat." – Richard Vergez

"Trains of Thought" collects the Cuban-American artist's mixed-media collages and installations of trains, aiming to reveal the way these vehicles interact with our lives, both physically and metaphorically. These works resonate deeply in a city like Miami, which continues to suffer from a massive deficit in public transit options that might be alleviated by an increased investment in trains.

Born in Philadelphia, Richard Vergez is a visual and sound artist with a background in graphic design and audio-visual composition. Before relocating to South Florida, he lived and worked in New York, where he was a member of the Brooklyn Collage Collective. His work has been shown in New York, London, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, and elsewhere.

Vergez is also active in Miami’s music community. He founded the alternative music label Noir Age in 2017, releasing limited-edition music from global experimental artists. His work scoring contemporary dance performances for the Cuban choreographer Ana Mendez has seen his work performed at the Adrienne Arsht Center, De La Cruz Collection, and other institutions. He currently works with fellow sound artist Mónica Mesa in the avant-garde group Za Za.
