The HotBox Cinema Club
The series of posters for The HotBox Cinema Club is not intended as an advertising resource for the club's screenings. Instead, these movie posters serve as documentation for each screening that took place between 2020 and 2022. The screenings occurred both in person at a warehouse in downtown Miami and online during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Patricia painted each movie poster after the respective film's screening and before the next one. This practice of documenting inspired an analysis of visual language and sparked an interest in the power of a still image or symbol to encapsulate the essence of a film. The posters delve into narrative painting and undergo style changes from one title to another. This stylistic shift is motivated by the belief that style should be subservient to the message, rather than the other way around.
